Club Championship
Each year the WA Marathon Club awards the most outstanding female and male performance over multiple events from the nominated Club Championship events on the annual Programme, in each of the age groups. The methodology for determining the winner of each age group is as follows:
Kilometre Pace – The average kilometre pace (minutes per kilometre) will be calculated for each competitor for each event. This pace will be converted into an "equivalent 10km pace" to ensure all race distances are treated equally. The "equivalent 10km pace" from the best 7 events (5 events for over 60's and 16-24; and 3 events for under 16's) will be averaged to give an overall kilometre pace for each person.
The person with the fastest kilometre pace will be deemed the Champion if their pace is more than 10 sec/km faster than the second fastest person. If the difference between the top runners is 10 sec/km or less, the criteria described below will be used to determine the Champion.
State Championship Events and Major Events – Results in State Championship events (Perth Marathon, Bridges Fun Run 10km, Fremantle Half Marathon) and other major events (Joondalup Half Marathon, Perth Half Marathon, Fremantle Running Festival 10km, Rottnest Marathon & 10km) will be reviewed for head-to-head battles and finishing position. If two (or more) of the top runners in each age category race head-to-head in these events, the person with the most higher placings will be deemed the Champion.
If the two (or more) top runners do not race head-to-head in any major events, then finishing position in all events will be reviewed. However, the finishing position in the major events/distances will carry more weight than the finishing position in other runs. For example, if one person finishes first in three major events, they will be deemed the Champion, compared to someone finishing first in three other events in the Championship Series.
Where a member changes age groups during the period, they will only be eligible for the age group of their first event for the year. Events contested at the older age group will be included in the seven events for the lower age group award.
Under 16 Awards will be made to members under 16 years of age, based on the most outstanding female and male performance over three events having a maximum distance of 5km (any WAMC events, not necessarily those nominated as Club Championship events due to the distance limitation). If a member attains the age of 16 during the year, races in which the member competes from the birthday on may be counted for the purpose of the 16 to 19 age group as above, but they will only be eligible to win one age group.
To qualify for club champion, individuals must have volunteered at least once at a WAMC event within the same year they are competing for the title. They also need to have participated in a minimum number of events:
- Under 16: 3 events
- 16 to 24: 5 events
- 25 to 59: 8 events
- Over 60: 5 events

Annual awards criteria
Most outstanding male and female performance over seven events from the nominated Club Championship events on the annual programme.
Most improved member assessed over a maximum period of five years. Performances over specific races or comparable race distances during that period and km rates to be used as indicators. Members must have completed 5 races from the nominated Club Championship events on the annual Programme in each of the past two years.
Most outstanding female performance and male performance over seven events from the nominated Club Championship events on the annual Programme, in each of the age groups (starting from "16 to 19", then "20 to 24", "25 to 29" and so on up to "55 to 59").
For the age groups 60 years and over, the eligibility shall be reduced to five events from the nominated Club Championship events.
A members age group for calculation of the awards will be based on their age at 1st January in the current year.
Under 12 and Under 16 Awards will be made to members based on the most outstanding female performance and male performance over three events having a maximum distance of 5km (any WAMC events, not necessarily those nominated as Club Championship events due to the distance limitation).
Awarded to a WAMC member for their outstanding voluntary service throughout the year.
To be awarded to a member who has come back from serious injury / illness. Does not have to be awarded on an annual basis.
Established to encourage new young runners to get involved. It is awarded to an outstanding performance from a under 18 club member who caught the attention of the WAMC Committee. This may have been at one or more WAMC events and someone other than the age group champion.
This is awarded to a member that the WAMC Committee has seen overcome many obstacles and barriers just to get to the start line and in doing so has inspired and motivated all of those around them to get running and to stay running.
Celebrating the boldest beginners – this award honours those who took their very first steps with us, from Couch to 5K and beyond. It's for the greenest runners who dove in, showed up, and inspired us all with their fresh energy or step up in distance!
For the runner who's always there, always improving, and always lifting others up – this award celebrates a WA Marathon Club member whose dedication, progress, and encouragement have truly inspired our coaches and the whole club community.
